Fixed Life Insurance in Westfield, Indiana

Term, indexed universal life, and other non-variable permanent designs. Indexed universal life is the permanent coverage this practice uses most — cash value that can grow when an index rises, and a floor when it doesn’t.

This page is fixed life insurance: term for a defined window, and indexed universal life or another non-variable permanent design when the death benefit has to last. Indexed Universal Life (IUL) is permanent life insurance. Part of what you pay covers the death benefit your family may need. Another part can build cash value, with interest credits linked in part to a market index, subject to the contract’s caps, participation rates, and floors. You are not buying stocks inside the policy.

Ted Byrer shops multiple carriers so the structure fits the job — death benefit, cash value design, riders, and the insurer behind the promise — not a house product.

What IUL is built to do

Protect people who depend on you

The core job is the death benefit: income replacement, estate liquidity, and a clean handoff when it matters most.

Build cash value with defined rules

Credits may reference an index. Floors, caps, and participation rates are contractual. Illustrations are not promises — they are scenarios. Ted will walk the illustration line by line.

Keep flexibility inside the policy

IUL is universal life: premiums and death benefit can often be adjusted within policy and IRS rules. Flexibility is useful; it is also where poorly designed policies get into trouble.

Pair with retirement income planning

For some households, permanent life sits beside FIAs, Social Security, and other protection (LTC, disability). The question is always: what job is this policy supposed to do?

IUL vs. what people often confuse it with

Straight answers. Not a sales script.

DesignWhat it is in one line
Is IUL an investment account? No. It is life insurance with a cash value feature.
Can cash value go down in a crash?Index-linked credits typically use a floor (often 0% for the indexed strategy) so market declines do not credit negative interest the way a brokerage account can. Policy charges still apply.
Is IUL the same as an FIA?No. An FIA is an annuity (income/accumulation). IUL is life insurance (death benefit + optional cash value).
Is this securities advice? No. This practice does not sell stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or variable contracts.

How the designs on this page differ

This practice works with fixed life insurance: term, indexed universal life, and other non-variable permanent designs. Not variable life. Not a securities product.

Term is for a defined window of risk — replace a paycheck if someone dies too soon. Read how term life insurance works. IUL and other fixed permanent designs are for lasting coverage, cash value, or estate liquidity. Business and farm succession can be funded without a fire sale.

The product is a means. The design is the work: how much, what kind, who owns it, and how it sits next to the rest of the plan.

How Ted structures the conversation

No product pitch in the first five minutes. If term, another permanent design, or “you already have enough” is the better answer, that is the answer.

  1. 01

    Listen

Who depends on you, what a death or care event would do, what the money has to accomplish.

  2. 02

    Define the job

Pure protection, cash value emphasis, business/succession, or a mix.

  3. 03

    Shop carriers

Compare cost of insurance, crediting options, riders, and financial strength.

  4. 04

    Illustrate honestly

Stress-test the illustration — not just the illustrated column. Implement carefully if it fits.
